Corn Beef and Cabbage Recipe - 3 lb corned beef brisket (with packet) 8 cups water (or half water + half broth if you want a richer flavor) 2–3 lbs potatoes (halved) 1.5–2 lbs carrots 1–2 heads of cabbage, cut into wedges 1 onion (optional)
Cook the brisket Place the brisket in a large pot Sprinkle in the seasoning packet Add water/broth Bring to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer. 👉 Cook 2.5–3 hours until fork-tender
Add potatoes + carrots → cook 20–25 minutes Add cabbage last → cook 15 minutes 👉 This keeps everything tender but not mushy (important with cabbage!)
Slice + serve Remove brisket and let rest 5–10 minutes Slice against the grain Serve with veggies and spoon broth over everything
