It's the first day of our first buying trip in ages! We're freestyling enroute to bigger appointments, looking for bargains in unlikely places in Louisville, Kentucky. Freestyle is definitely the word, since today's experiences are unlike our usual antique & vintage shopping destinations!
We start at the Goodwill Outlet, just in time to see all the racks and racks of items against the wall be moved out while a crowd clamors to see what is on the next batch! We watch the assemblage, and our review of the stuff is much different than theirs, with a different kind of training and interest at work! We marvel at the patience people have with digging through random whatever, knowing that it's too cheap to miss making profitable but seeing nothing of age or import to us.
But down the road is a very different experience, where the South Louisville Antique & Toy Mall is a genius concept where lots of small sellers with collections and expertise in their fields--Barbies to Hot Wheels, promotional cars to a 1970s Donny & Marie playset bring nostalgia back for anyone shopping this emporium of childhood goodies. Yet we find bargains here, too, by looking for the odd things that don't belong--Kentucky Derby glasses for $1, a Churchill Downs program for 1/4 of its value, a Blenko leaf vase for $2.50 and a few other prizes come home for an embarrassingly cheap amount!
Our buying trip is off to a good start, and a fun and different set of reseller experiences are had together.
